Can all tattoo colors be removed?
Laser tattoo removal has come a long ways, and with today’s advanced technology, we’re able to successfully treat almost every color on the spectrum for tattoo removal. Modern systems like the Candela Picoway that we run here at Chariot Tattoo & Laser Removal allow us to target the widest range of pigments with precision - The main exceptions being white and certain yellows. These are more resistant to laser due to how the pigment molecules reflect light, but even then, we can often significantly improve and soften their appearance.
Black and dark gray inks are still the easiest to remove, as they absorb all wavelengths of light and we treat with the 1064 nm wavelength. But where technology has really evolved is in treating color. At our Boise studio, we utilize advanced wavelengths likethe 730 nm, which is an absolute workhorse for targeting stubborn blues, greens, and purples—colors that historically were some of the most difficult to remove. With this wavelength, we’re able to break down these pigments far more effectively than older systems ever could, and frequently achieve full removal.
For warmer tones like reds, oranges, and pinks, we use the 532 nm wavelength, which is specifically designed to shatter these color molecules. This wavelength is incredibly effective and can obliterate these tones over a series of treatments, often with impressive speed and clarity. By combining multiple wavelengths and customizing each session based on how your tattoo is responding, we’re able to achieve consistent, predictable fading across a wide range of colors.
While white and some yellow pigments can still present challenges, the vast majority of tattoos—whether black, blue, green, red, or multicolored—can be dramatically lightened or fully removed with the right approach. And even in cases where a trace of pigment remains, we can almost always create a clean enough canvas for a beautiful cover-up or complete transformation.
The bottom line: tattoo removal today is more advanced, more effective, and more versatile than ever. With the right technology and expertise, there are very few tattoos we can’t significantly improve—and most we can remove entirely.
